I spent a total of 18 weeks in South Karamoja, Uganda between 2004-2006; this blog is part travel journal and part Karamoja/Africa news. Uganda is a country in East Africa, slightly smaller than Wyoming and with a pop. of 22 million; Karamoja is on the eastern side. (See this map.)
Coffee is the major export crop. In Karamoja, cattle are the measure of wealth; people also grow sorghum, beans, and peanuts.

Thanks, Berta! I did take it, either on the road to Karamoja or from Karamoja to Mbale, one of the big towns. Right now everything is green and shrivelled up, but I've only been there in the rainy season so have no other pictures...
