Awhile ago, you mentioned some books you had read on Africa or had been wanting to read. One VERY good author I have read is Helen Roseveare; her books were out of print until this year when some publishing company is reprinting them. Helen was a missionary doctor in the Congo in the 60s-70s, and she was there when the rebels took over. The two books of hers I have read so far are: Give Me This Mountain and Doctor Among Congo Rebels. I found another book of hers at my grandfathers in Northern Ireland this summer and took it, but have not read it yet.
Sarah, thanks a bunch for the book recommendations - those definitely sound like ones I'd like! And they're affordable, too. :) I'll tell you what I think when I read them...
I hope you had a good Thanksgiving celebration last weekend!
I spent a total of 18 weeks in South Karamoja, Uganda between 2004-2006; this blog is part travel journal and part Karamoja/Africa news. Uganda is a country in East Africa, slightly smaller than Wyoming and with a pop. of 22 million; Karamoja is on the eastern side. (See this map.)
Coffee is the major export crop. In Karamoja,
cattle are the measure of wealth; people also grow sorghum, beans, and peanuts.
Mini Glossary: ejok nooi - hello alakara - thank you alakara akalip - thank you for praying Akuj - God akiru - rain
Your comments are welcome - I would be glad to hear from you!

I'm sorry, if you go to www.cbd.com and type in Helen Roseveare as an author, her books will come up.
